About Us

The Birmingham & Solihull Learning & Skills Council (LSC) has sponsored this ePortal through European Social Fund Monies.  The aim of the ePortal is to assist the health and social care sector to increase the skills levels of employees, provide information and improve recruitment and retention in the sector.

Due to the aging population, the health and social care sector is expanding rapidly. Historically many staff working within this sector are unqualified and have little opportunity for training due to constraints of time and resources.  In particular, there is a shortage of qualified staff within the private and independent care home sectors. The childcare sector is also a rapidly expanding area experiencing skills shortages and difficulties in recruiting suitably qualified and experienced staff.

Birmingham and Solihull currently have 3 colleges working towards Centre of Vocational Excellence Standard.  These are Bournville College, Josiah Mason and Solihull College.  These colleges have been commissioned by the Birmingham & Solihull LSC to design this website and encourage recruitment into the health and social care sector, promote career and post development opportunities for those working within the sector and publicise events and information.

It is hoped that the ePortal will forge yet stronger links between colleges and the health and social care providers in Birmingham and Solihull.
